people always told me that my hair was beautiful, that they were jealous of it, that they wanted hair like mine.
so i cut it off.
it was a sort of experiment. my hair was the one thing that i always got compliments on, so what would happen if it wasn’t there? i wanted to be able to believe that people liked me for more than just my hair. that my beauty extended farther than just my outward appearance. i needed to see that cutting my hair changed nothing about my life in order for me to really believe that beauty is within.
and people didn’t care. people loved my short hair, they said it was unique and made me look older. in fact at first, i got more positive feedback about my hair than i did before.
i think i knew that my beauty wasn’t just my long blonde hair, i think i always knew that i was more than my hair, but it took something drastic for me to have proof. i tried to make myself less beautiful and it didn’t work. that may sound really cocky, but it’s not. nothing changed about me except for some minor physical trait.
